Civil Contract will not get mayor in Gyumri, candidate says

PanARMENIAN.Net - Martun Grigoryan, mayoral candidate in Gyumri from the “Our City” alliance, stated on his Facebook page that the ruling Civil Contract party will not secure the mayoral position in Gyumri. “Dear citizens of Gyumri, I reaffirm my statement – the Civil Contract party will not have a mayor in Gyumri, that is certain,” he wrote.

The next session of the Gyumri municipal council is scheduled for April 16.

Preliminary unofficial calculations suggest the distribution of seats in the Gyumri municipal council as follows:

  • Civil Contract (Sarik Minasyan) – 14 seats
  • Communist Party of Armenia (Vardan Ghukasyan) – 8 seats
  • Our City (Martun Grigoryan) – 6 seats
  • My Strong Community (Ruben Mkhitaryan) – 3 seats
  • Mother Armenia (Karen Simonyan) – 2 seats

If opposition forces unite, they could secure the mayor’s office in Gyumri.

Earlier, Vardan Ghukasyan, the Communist Party candidate who received the most votes among opposition candidates, stated he is waiting for Martun Grigoryan’s position. He also clarified that there has been no discussion or contact with Grigoryan since the vote.

“I know Ruben has already made a statement, for which I thank him, and Karen has as well. I will negotiate with them, discuss things, and even hope to find common ground for cooperation if I see valuable points in their programs that are missing in mine – all in the interest of the city. As for Martun Grigoryan, we can sit down, talk, and negotiate. I don’t see anyone as an enemy, no matter how much higher authorities tried to stir things up in Gyumri. I have always said – I have no enemies in my own country,” he said.
