U.S. bipartisan bill promotes awareness of Armenian Genocide

PanARMENIAN.Net - A new bill introduced by U.S. Congresswoman Dina Titus seeks to implement an Armenian Genocide education program, supported by Representatives Gus Bilirakis, David Valadao, and Ted Lieu.

The proposed legislation would allocate $10 million over five years to develop and distribute educational content, train teachers, and integrate online resources and curricula. The goal is to educate students across the United States on the causes, consequences, and lessons of the Armenian Genocide, a crime against humanity that has gone unpunished, according to the Armenian National Committee of America.

“This bill represents a commitment to truth, justice, and the power of education to build a more informed and compassionate world for future generations,” said Titus.

She emphasized that the initiative to educate students about the Armenian Genocide is part of the broader fight against genocide denial and a tribute to the memory of the victims.

Gus Bilirakis stated, “Education and awareness are among the best tools to achieve that goal. I’m proud to once again co-lead this important Armenian Genocide education bill.”

He added that recognizing past atrocities is essential to preventing their recurrence.

David Valadao said, “Teaching Americans about this tragedy is crucial. As a co-chair of the Congressional Armenian Caucus, I’m proud to support this step to strengthen educational efforts and reaffirm our commitment to truth and remembrance.”

He noted that around 1.5 million people perished during the Armenian Genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire and stressed the importance of preserving the memory of this historical event.

Ted Lieu also addressed the bill, stating, “The Armenian Genocide is among the most horrific acts of evil. While we can’t go back 110 years to stop the killing of approximately 1.5 million Armenians, we can use education to ensure the victims are never forgotten. These atrocities have had lasting effects on Armenia and the Armenian diaspora. It’s critical that future generations know about this massacre to prevent it from ever happening again.”

He expressed his support for Dina Titus’s initiative.
