MP says protest goals go beyond Artsakh alone

PanARMENIAN.Net - Tigran Abrahamyan, Secretary of the opposition I Have Honor parliamentary faction, stated during a protest outside Armenia’s Foreign Ministry that the issues raised by displaced Artsakh Armenians concern not only Artsakh itself but also the security and broader interests of the Republic of Armenia.

“The goal of the protest is to achieve concrete results through pressure. The issues on today’s agenda raised by the people of Artsakh are not only vital to them but also directly affect Armenia and its security,” he told reporters, as cited by Panorama.am .

Protesters have also appealed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs to safeguard the rights of displaced Artsakh residents and, through cooperation with international bodies, facilitate the prompt return of Armenian prisoners of war.

Abrahamyan emphasized that such protests should be result-oriented, requiring clear and coordinated steps. He declared that the main demand of his party is the resignation of the current government, arguing that its foreign policy does not represent the interests of the Armenian people.

“The foreign policy promoted by the authorities does not reflect the will of the Armenian nation or serve the collective interests of Armenians. That is why regime change is a priority for us,” he said.

He added that no superficial or symbolic reforms can be considered credible solutions.

In response, the Foreign Ministry reiterated earlier statements that Armenia had engaged in negotiations with Azerbaijan to secure the rights and safety of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh, including efforts to establish international mechanisms. However, following the decree dissolving the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic and the forced displacement of its population, the issue has been removed from Armenia’s bilateral agenda with Azerbaijan.
