Iran eyes deeper Armenia ties via strategic document![]() April 14, 2025 - 19:22 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Iran’s First Deputy Foreign Minister, Majid Takht-Ravanchi, has emphasized the need to focus on signing a strategic document with Armenia. In an interview with Regionmonitor.com, he stated that “efforts should be centered on concluding a strategic agreement with Armenia.” Responding to whether such an agreement is being planned, Takht-Ravanchi said, “Why not, in my view?” He explained that both sides have shown interest in moving forward with the document and that a well-crafted agreement could provide a solid foundation for developing strategic relations. “Even if it takes time to prepare a quality document, I believe that as long as both parties demonstrate interest, we must work harder to reach this goal,” he added. Addressing the current level of Iran-Armenia cooperation, Takht-Ravanchi noted that the two countries enjoy traditionally strong neighborly relations. “We believe there is vast untapped potential that both nations should use to enhance bilateral ties. In trade, there is much that could benefit both sides economically. Culturally, many positive developments can occur both in Yerevan and Tehran and in other cities.” He pointed to university cooperation, student and faculty exchange programs as further examples of collaboration, adding that more areas like transport connectivity should also be explored to link both countries and their neighbors. “People-to-people ties such as tourism are another area that can be considered. There are many topics and sectors both countries should focus on to expand and deepen their already strong relations,” he said. He also mentioned ongoing communication between the foreign ministers and presidents of both countries and emphasized their commitment to sharing views on various occasions. “Everything is in place to boost bilateral ties. Moreover, we believe there is room for greater cooperation internationally, including through the United Nations and other forums.” The deputy minister concluded by stating that Iran and Armenia have shown their determination to strengthen relations across various sectors and must uncover further opportunities to do so. ![]() ![]() The foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Ararat Mirzoyan and Jeyhun Bayramov, have arrived in Washington.
