The U.S. Department of State has decided to cancel foreign aid programs totaling $215 million across several countries, including Armenia. This information was confirmed by the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
“Secretary of State Marco Rubio continues to reassess the State Department’s foreign aid. Today, 139 ineffective grants worth $215 million were canceled,” DOGE stated on X, as reported by Sputnik Armenia.
In addition to Armenia, the funding suspension also affects Belarus, Bulgaria, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Kyrgyzstan, Libya, Mauritania, Moldova, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, and Sri Lanka.
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) also announced that, as of February 8, all non-essential contract staff worldwide would be furloughed, except for personnel critical to missions, senior leadership, and those working on designated special programs. Employees stationed abroad were instructed to return to the U.S. within 30 days.
