Mirzoyan says Armenia open to dissolving Minsk Group

Yerevan is prepared to support the termination of the OSCE Minsk Group’s activities if the peace process concludes with a formal agreement, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan told reporters, responding to Azerbaijan’s calls to dissolve the group.

“We believe that if the conflict, which is de facto over, is also settled de jure—manifested through a signed peace agreement—then there is no longer a need for an international mechanism designed to deal with that conflict,” Mirzoyan said, as reported by Aysor.am .

According to him, in such a scenario, the continued existence of the Minsk Group would hold no added value and, on the contrary, might even prove counterproductive in a post-conflict setting.

“We are open and supportive of that dissolution process. We simply believe that the two documents—the peace agreement and the joint letter to the OSCE initiating the Minsk Group’s dissolution—can be signed on the same day,” Mirzoyan noted.

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan voiced the proposal to simultaneously sign a peace agreement and submit the request to dissolve the Minsk Group at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
