Armenian athletes continued their medal streak with new successes at the European Weightlifting Championships.
On April 18, the women’s 76kg competition took place in Moldova. Anna Amroyan, trained by Kristine Petrosyan, became European vice-champion with a total lift of 231 kg.
In the snatch, Amroyan successfully lifted 95 kg and then 100 kg. In the clean and jerk, she managed 126 kg and then 131 kg, earning a bronze medal in that exercise, according to the Armenian Weightlifting Federation.
Another Armenian athlete, Milena Khachatryan, coached by Ashot Pilosyan, lifted 95 kg in the snatch. In the clean and jerk, she lifted 121 kg, 128 kg, and 131 kg. Khachatryan secured a silver medal in the clean and jerk.
Her total of 226 kg placed her sixth overall.
The Armenian women’s team is headed by Artashes Nersisyan, with Taron Tovmasyan as assistant coach.
On April 19, three Armenian athletes will compete. At 17:00 Yerevan time, Emma Poghosyan and Margarita Arakelyan will take part in the women’s 81kg event. At 20:00, David Hovhannisyan will compete in the men’s 96kg category.
