Garik Karapetyan has won the European Weightlifting Championships in Chisinau, representing Armenia. Simon Martirosyan took the silver medal in the same competition.
Karapetyan began with the snatch, successfully lifting 180 kg and then 185 kg, earning gold in this discipline. In the clean and jerk, he lifted 212 kg, followed by 220 kg and finally 226 kg, securing first place in that category as well.
With a total of 411 kg, Karapetyan was declared the overall European champion, according to the Armenian Weightlifting Federation.
Simon Martirosyan lifted 181 kg in the snatch, finishing second and earning silver. In the clean and jerk, he managed 213 kg and then 225 kg, also placing second in this segment.
His combined total of 406 kg earned him the overall silver medal.
Liana Gyurjyan won a silver medal in the 87 kg weight category. She also received a small silver medal in the clean and jerk.
Tatev Hakobyan secured a small silver medal in the snatch.
The European Weightlifting Federation posted photos of Simon Martirosyan and Garik Karapetyan, noting: “In some nations, children grow up kicking balls. In Armenia, they grow up lifting barbells. Weightlifting here is not just a sport—it’s heritage, pride, and power in motion.”
