Aram Sargsyan: ‘strategic partnership’ key in Trump’s message

PanARMENIAN.Net - Aram Sargsyan, leader of the Republic party, responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s April 24 statement, emphasizing that the key phrases were “we eagerly look forward” and “strategic partnership.” He shared his views in a Facebook post.

Quoting the U.S. president, Sargsyan wrote: “We eagerly look forward to continuing our strategic partnership with Armenia.” He underlined that such wording requires Armenia’s government to urgently form a delegation of experts — including those with knowledge in security, economics, energy, and human and natural resources — and send it to Washington with concrete programs and proposals.

He further stated: “I am convinced that the U.S. president’s wording is also a result of recent Azerbaijan-China agreements. There is no time to waste. This subtle hint from the president suggests that if we act precisely, time may work in our favor.”

In his April 24 statement, President Donald Trump refrained from using the term “genocide,” referring instead to the events as Medz Yeghern. The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) strongly condemned Trump’s continued failure to officially recognize the Armenian Genocide.
