Before his visit to Baku, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian discussed Armenia-Azerbaijan relations during an interview with Azerbaijan's state-run AzTV channel.
He stated that the reopening of communications in the South Caucasus must occur on the basis of mutual respect for territorial integrity, according to Mehr News Agency.
"Iran is providing Azerbaijan a road link to Nakhijevan through its territory, work on this is already underway, and an agreement has been reached," Pezeshkian said.
He also emphasized that Iran has "always supported Azerbaijan's rights and supports Armenia within the framework of its rights."
"We are working to ensure that the sides live peacefully based on good neighborly relations," Pezeshkian added.
He further noted that the border and territorial disputes between Armenia and Azerbaijan can only be resolved when political and trade relations between the two nations are normalized, taking into account both sides' rights.
