The Central Office of the ARFD Bureau has appealed to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) to assist in the release of 23 Armenian prisoners of war held in Baku, including former military-political leaders of Artsakh.
The OSCE has been urged to use its available instruments to examine the legislative and administrative procedures within Azerbaijan’s commitments, document the current situation, and provide appropriate recommendations and advice.
The statement mentions that "senior OSCE officials have also been provided with information regarding deficiencies in Azerbaijan’s judicial system, as well as various states' and international organizations' positions in support of Armenian prisoners."
At the same time, the online petition platform initiated by the Central Office of the ARF Bureau's continues to operate actively, allowing anyone to sign an online petition addressed to the relevant OSCE officials.
According to the announcement, "every day is critical for the welfare and lives of our prisoners. The international community must exert pressure on Azerbaijan and President Ilham Aliyev to end gross human rights violations and secure the release of all illegally detained Armenian captives."
It is noted that the number of signatures has currently reached six thousand, but increasing participation remains crucial. The Central Office of the Armenian Cause calls on everyone who has not yet joined to sign the petition and support the efforts to free Armenian prisoners held in Baku.
In September 2023, following a nine-month blockade and the ethnic cleansing of the entire Armenian population of Artsakh, Azerbaijan captured former Artsakh Presidents Arkadi Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, Arayik Harutyunyan, former State Minister Ruben Vardanyan, Foreign Minister Davit Babayan, and several other former officials. The fabricated charges against them could result in life imprisonment. On January 17, a show trial against the Artsakh leaders began in Baku.
