Minister says SOAD concert stays on agenda

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia’s Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan said on her Facebook page that System of a Down’s Yerevan concert continues to remain on the agenda, but the timing of the event will still be coordinated with the band.

“Regarding the SOAD concert: we have a mutual desire to organize a SOAD concert in Armenia, and yes, we discussed the option of holding a concert in Yerevan this July, which is what the prime minister spoke about. Nevertheless, certain organizational and scheduling issues make it impossible to organize the concert in July. But the concert remains on the agenda, and in the near future we will agree on its dates with the band,” she wrote.

Earlier, System of a Down founder Serj Tankian denied Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s statement that the band would perform in Yerevan in July.

“SOAD in Yerevan? There seems to be some confusion about this. We were planning to have a concert this July, but decided to postpone it because of logistical and scheduling complications. We will announce it when the new date is clear,” Tankian wrote.

The prime minister had spoken about the concert during the election campaign.

System of a Down’s previous concert in Yerevan took place in 2015 at Republic Square, marking the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
