As part of the election campaign, the Against Everyone party held a protest action titled “Fabricating a Case” outside the building of Armenia’s Prosecutor General’s Office, dedicating the event to Arthur Osipyan, chairman of the Revolutionary Party of Artsakh.
Arthur Osipyan was detained on May 18 following an argument with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. On May 21, it became known that a court had ordered his detention for two months. Criminal proceedings were initiated against him under Article 330, Part 2, Clause 3; Article 297, Part 1; and Article 211, Part 1 of Armenia’s Criminal Code.
During the protest, the party’s already well-known Spider-Man character stood silently in front of the building, while a “Black Spider-Man” dressed in clothing resembling a prosecutor’s uniform sewed a sheet of paper marked “Case No.” onto his back.
The performer then placed handcuffs on Spider-Man and led him away, symbolically reenacting an arrest.
“This process of fabricating cases is happening in reality as well, and we consider Arthur Osipyan’s detention deeply unjust. There is no reason to keep him in custody, especially considering that he has been on a hunger strike for 14 days. We believe that, besides Osipyan, there are other political prisoners in Armenia whose cases have been fabricated. During this time, certain things have been edited and falsified. We had planned other actions, but today we could not ignore this issue,” said Hovsep Ghazaryan, a parliamentary candidate from the Against Everyone party.
He emphasized that he does not personally know Arthur Osipyan but has studied his background and is convinced that Osipyan did not flee from challenges and instead continued his struggle.
At the end of the protest, party members chanted “Freedom for Arthur Osipyan” and “Freedom for all political prisoners.”
The election campaign, which began on May 8, will continue until June 5. June 6 will be a day of electoral silence, and elections will be held on June 7. On May 25, the Alliance Progressive Centrist Party submitted a withdrawal request, after which the Central Election Commission invalidated the registration of the party’s electoral list. As a result, there will be no ballot paper numbered 13 in the upcoming elections.
