Moscow Sargsyan-Aliyev meeting reveals superpowers'pressure on Karabakh process

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Moscow meeting of the Armenia's and Azerbaijan's presidents has been an important and significant. But in the nearest future any agreement to settle the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will not be signed, Richard Giragosian, director of the Armenian Center for National and International Studies told a news conference in Yerevan today.



"Nevertheless, the meeting revealed the pressure of Russia, U.S. and Europe on the resolution of the Karabakh conflict and it can be justified by the fact that the Karabakh conflict is the only frozen conflict in the region", the Armenian expert stressed. At the same time Richard Giragosian noticed that the pressure of the superpowers is rather directed to the process between Yerevan and Ankara, than to the Karabakh conflict.



"The Armenian-Turkish process goes faster than that of Karabakh. But the problems of the two processes are interrelated and it is not an accidental that both Moscow and Washington support the Turkish diplomats.

Thus, Turkey, emphasizing the progress in the negotiation process, is willing to justify the opening of borders and normalization of the Armenian- Turkish relations, " Richard Giragosian said. The Armenian expert explained particularly by this the appointment of the next meeting of Armenia's and Azerbaijan's heads in autumn this year, when the continuation of the "football diplomacy" is expected.



According to him, Superpowers'pressure could not lead to concluding an agreement on the Karabakh conflict and ensuring guarantees of Karabakh's security. "In my opinion, the only way to solve this conflict to include Stepanakert in the negotiations", the Armenian expert said.
