ELECTIONS IN NKR WERE HELD IN DEMOCRATIC ATMOSPHERE

PanARMENIAN.Net - President of NKR Arkady Ghukasian stated he was satisfied with the process and the results of the elections of local government bodies held in Karabakh yesterday. In his words, the elections in the Republic were held in a normal, democratic atmosphere.

The elections were held in 230 communities of the country. 360 community leader candidates and 1550 member of council of elders candidates were registered. 6 persons sought Stepanakert mayor's office.

Let us remind last week the Council of Europe appealed to Nagorno Karabakh leadership to refrain from holding elections, expressing supposition that they would adversely affect the negotiation process on Karabakh. At the same time the official Washington does not consider the elections held may hamper the Karabakh conflict settlement.
