Armenian brandy on way to European market

PanARMENIAN.Net - Yerevan Brandy Company (YBC) CEO Ara Grigoryan said that in 2009 Yerevan Brandy Company produced 2.9mln liters of brandy, out of which 2,57mln liters were exported, while the rest went to the local market.

Russia keeps the leadership by the volume of deliveries, followed by Ukraine, Armenia, Duty Free and Belarus, Grigoryan told a press conference in Yerevan.

Referring to the Ukrainian market, Grigoryan said that the maximum volume of sales was recorded there in 2007-2008, totaling 475,000 liters. However, during the crisis period, it dropped to 430,000 liters. “We plan to sell 450,000 liters this year,” said Grigoryan, adding that the share of ArArAt in all categories of Armenian brandy sold in Ukraine makes 60-65%.

YBC attaches importance to the U.S. market, which is incomparable to the Russian and Ukrainian market, said Ara Grigoryan. As for the European market, Germany has a special place in it, as it implements deliveries to other European countries. Growth in sales was recorded in Hungary, Bulgaria, Belgium, Italy, France and the Czech Republic.

“Double growth is recorded there annually. Hopefully, we will have the opportunity to label these markets as basic ones in several years,” said Grigoryan.

As for new markets of ArArAt, he said that 3,000 liters of brandy were delivered to Vietnam in 2009.
