Armenian parliament amends Electoral Code on threshold of electionMay 24, 2011 - 15:06 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The Armenian parliament adopted in the second reading amendments to the RA Electoral Code. Only the ARF Dashnaktsutyun parliamentary group voted against the bill, which was supported by 73 parliamentarians. 11 MPs abstained. Head of the group Vahan Hovhannisyan said that though the amendments can be considered as a serious progress, the group will vote against them, since the offered bill does not envisage radical reforms in the Electoral Code. Group member Armen Rustamyan said, in turn, that the suggested amendments only boost the coalition parties’ chance to be reelected. Meanwhile, Armenian Minister of Justice Hrayr Tovmasyan said that the amendments are efficient for holding democratic elections in Armenia. According to him, these indicate the authorities’ willingness to hold fair and free elections.
