MP: progress at Kazan meeting depends on Azerbaijan’s stand

PanARMENIAN.Net - The progress in talks during trilateral presidential meeting in Kazan will mostly depend on the stand of Azerbaijan, that is, its constructivism, according to MP Artak Davtyan, member of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA).

“Recognition of the status of Nagorno Karabakh, provision of its security and exclusion of its existence as an enclave through fixing common border with Armenia are pivotal issues for the problem resolution,” he told a press conference in Yerevan.

“Deauville statement adopted by the leaders of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries is concordant with Armenia’s stand, namely in the fact that there is no alternative to peaceful settlement of the conflict and that it is necessary to prepare people for peace,” Davtyan said.

In turn, one of the leaders of the Armenian National Movement (ANM), Erjanik Abgaryan, singled out the negative points of the ongoing negotiations process, in particular, unawareness of Armenian public of certain points of Madrid principles.

“Nagorno Karabakh is not involved in the process, being just an observer,” Abgaryan said, estimating Karabakh’s non-engagement in talks as negative.

The trilateral presidential meeting is scheduled for June 25 in Kazan. Experts do not exclude that a certain document on Karabakh conflict settlement will be signed.

There are certain expectations with respect to the meeting, taking into consideration the Deauville statement adopted by the leaders of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries, who said “the time has arrived for all the sides to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict to take a decisive step towards a peaceful settlement. Further delay [in the settlement] would only call into question the commitment of the sides to reach an agreement.”
