RNK EX DEFENSE MINISTER SAYS "HE LOST HIS PSYCHOLOGICAL BALANCE" AFTER THE TALK WITH THE STATE PROSECUTOR

PanARMENIAN.Net - 02.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. Today, at the trial of the terrorist act against RNK President, the main accused RNK ex defense minister Samvel Babayan refused to give statements and asked the court to postpone the court session.

Babayan referred to the fact that after his meeting with the judge and the General Prosecutor of RNK, the state prosecutor Mavr Ghukasian, he lost his psychological balance, and so he wasn't able to answer court's questions. Earlier, on September 28, S. Babayan had asked for a confidential meeting with the chairman at court and the state prosecutor.

In the interview to MEDIAMAX the state prosecutor, the general prosecutor of RNK Mavr Ghukasian gave some information which had no direct connection with the assassination attempt itself. This information had to be confirmed by concrete persons.

"We addressed these persons and none of them confirmed it; the information turned to be an absolute lie," stated M Ghukasian. RNK General Prosecutor also said that today morning, before the court session began, S. Babayan was informed about the results of the check up of that information.

In the opinion of the state prosecutor, Samvel Babayan, not having cogent arguments against the incontrovertible evidence of his guilt, tries to delay the process and mislead the court examination.

The trial of the case of the March 22 terrorist act against RNK president Arkady Ghukasian started on September 18 in Stepanakert. The main accused of the case is RNK ex defense minister, Lieutenant-General Samvel Babayan. -0-
