FRENCH SPEAKER OFFERED TO HOLD RECURRENT MEETING OF FRANCE'S SENATE AND SOUTH CAUCASIAN PARLIAMENT CHAIRMEN IN PARIS

PanARMENIAN.Net - Being in Paris on vizit the Armenian parliamentary delegation headed by Speaker Artur Baghdasarian met with President of the French Senate Christian Poncelet. As reported by the press service of the RA National Assembly, during the meeting Ch. Poncelet pointed out the importance of the Armenian-French relationship, for both peoples are united by the common faith and adherence to the cultural values. In his opinion, the natural continuation of these relations became France's recognition of the Armenian Genocide of 1915 in the Ottoman Empire. It was noted that the Armenian community of France - being the third numerous one in the world after the US and Russia - plays a significant role in the relations between the two countries. Touching upon the subject of peace and stability achievement in the South Caucasus the Speaker of the French Senate suggested that the recurrent traditional meeting of the chairmen of the French and three South Caucasian countries' parliaments could be held in Paris on completion of the parliamentary elections in Georgia. The agreement on Christian Poncelet's visit to Armenia in 2005 has been as well achieved. Due to the outcomes of the meeting the parties signed the agreement on the inter-parliamentary cooperation.
