PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian opposition representatives consider the failure of the 16 opposition parties to unite around a joint candidate has not weakened opposition stand on the eve of the presidential elections. As candidate for president, leader of "National Unification" party Artashes Geghamian told "Arminfo" agency, opposition has acted in a rather prudent way when nominating several candidates at once. In his words, this way the opposition can avoid any fortuities in the course of the presidential elections. At the same time he refused to comment which fortuities the matter concerned. Another candidate for president, leader of "National-Democratic Union" Vazgen Manukian noted that the availability of a joint candidate from the opposition would have been an encouraging factor for the society. In his words, it even has positive aspects - the active simultaneous meetings of several opposition candidates with the country public have abruptly enhanced its rating. Second secretary of the Communist party of Armenia Sanatruk Sahakian stated that the unification of opposition around a joint candidate would have contributed to its unconditional victory at the presidential elections. He expressed confidence that in case the second round of elections became possible the opposition would undoubtedly unite around a joint candidate.
