CONSTITUTIONAL COURT OF ARMENIA CONSIDERED THE PROTOCOL OF CONFIRMATION OF CIS EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE REGULATIONS

PanARMENIAN.Net - 09.02.2001, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. The Constitutional Court (CC) of Armenia considered today the appeal of the President of Armenia Robert Kocharian about accordance of the Protocol of confirmation of CIS Executive Committee regulations (June 21, 2000) with the main law. Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian was the official representative of the president at court.

The CC resolved that the Protocol of confirmation of CIS charter corresponds to the Constitution of Armenia.

The protocol determines the structure of CIS Executive Committee, common points of work organization. The Committee is subordinate to the CIS Council of heads of states, CIS Foreign Ministerial Council and CIS Economic Council. Azerbaijan, the Ukraine and Uzbekistan signed the protocol with a special opinion, while Georgia and Moldavia - with reservations. An arguable point of the protocol is granting the Committee a status of international organization with the right of participation in various forums. -0-
