THE VICE SPEAKER OF THE ARMENIAN PARLIAMENT FROM THE REPUBLICAN PARTY ASSESSED AS ILLEGAL THE SESSION, CHAIRED BY ARMEN KHACHATRIAN

PanARMENIAN.Net - 27.09.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. "It is inadmissible for the ex-speaker of the National Assembly of the country to continue holding parliamentary sessions. In this connection the session chaired by speaker Khachatrian can't be considered legitimate". With this declaration spoke today the vice-speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, one of the leaders of the Republican party of Armenia, Tigran Torosian.

As the correspondent of MEDIAMAX reported from the National Assembly, a number of deputies, present at the session, refused to register today for the beginning of the session, due to which the quorum was not secured.

"We can't register for an illegal session, otherwise our actions will also be illegal", Torosian was quoted as saying.

Commenting upon the possible ways out of the situation, the parliamentarian said: "When the law is violated in the parliament, it's absurd to talk about the mechanisms". At the same time Torosian voiced his hope that "all the questions will be settled" without any difficulties. -0-
