ROBERT KOCHARIAN ILLEGALLY HOLDS THE POST OF THE PRESIDENT OF ARMENIA AS HE IS NOT A CITIZEN OF THE COUNTRY, READS THE STATEMENT OF "ARMENIAN HOUSE" NATIONAL-PATRIOTIC UNION

PanARMENIAN.Net - 15.08.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. "Robert Kocharian illegally holds the post of the president of Armenia, as he is not a citizen of the country", is said in the statement of the head of "Armenian House" National-Patriotic Union, Vardan Petrosian, addressed to the General Prosecutor of Armenia Boris Nazarian.

"After the coup d'etat, realized with the assistance of the power structures of the country, Robert Kocharian, illegally taking the post of the president of Armenia, usurped the power, abusing his position of acting president, acquired and submitted to the Central Committee forged documents, indicating that for the last 10 years he had been the citizen of Armenia and had been constantly living in the republic during that period. Based on these documents Kocharian was registered as a candidate to the post of the president, and later became the President of Armenian. Thus, Robert Kocharian has violated a number of articles of the Constitution", is said in the statement.

Vardan Petrosian adduces some facts, according to which Robert Kocharian couldn't have lived permanently in Armenia, as in the period of 1992-1997 he lived and worked in Stepanakert.

"There is no double citizenship law in Armenia, and as RNK is not a part of Armenia yet Robert Kocharian couldn't have been a citizen of Armenia. We ask you, in case any violations are found resulting from the above-mentioned facts, to bring a criminal case against people who have violated the Constitution, and call them to responsibility", notes the statement. -0-
