PAKISTAN AGAIN INCTIES AZERBAIJAN TO A WAR WITH ARMENIAThe regime of general Musharaff, wielding the technology of nuclear weapons production, promises its support to the Azerbaijani government in case if the military actions in Karabakh resume. The Azerbaijani Defense Minister paid another visit to Pakistan last week. Safar Abiyev has become a frequent visitor at Karachi, where he finds a warm welcome. Last time, in May 2001, General Abiyev delivered to General Musharraf the invitation of Heydar Aliyev to visit Baku. In his turn, General Musharraf invited the Azerbaijani President to Karachi. While the Presidents are trying to find time for a personal meeting, their Defense Ministers pave the way for a fruitful cooperation of the countries in the military sphere. ![]() PanARMENIAN.Net - Abiyev and his counterpart Hamid Navaz Khan signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in the military and defense spheres in the capital city of Pakistan on September 19. The day when the document was signed the Azerbaijani Minister was received by the President of Pakistan. “We attach great importance to the military cooperation with Azerbaijan and are ready to help Azerbaijan at any time”. These words are being quoted in Baku very frequently. Besides, the Azerbaijani media liked very much another statement of General Musharraf about the necessity “to strengthen the military potential of Azerbaijan in order to show a stubborn resistance to the enemy.” It's easy to judge whom does he mean while speaking about enemy. President of Pakistan is likely to test these words in practice. Probably, he does really believe that will be able to keep his word given to Heydar Aliyev in June 2000. We’ll remind that during his first personal meeting with the Azerbaijani leader taken place in the beginning of summer 2000 in Teheran within the frames of the summit of the Organization for Economic Cooperation, Musharraf promised “any kind of military assistance necessary to take back Karabakh”. According to the “Commersant” Moscow newspaper, the military leader of Pakistan urged Aliyev to undertake a radical way of settlement of the Karabakh problem. “The settlement of the Karabakh problem is the internal affair of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan can solve it in the way it likes,” Musharraf said noting that official Baku could count on the support of Islamabad in case if it decided to give a military solution to the problem. According to the Moscow newspaper, the Pakistani leader mentioned that he would render any kind of assistance, including the participation of the Pakistani soldiers in the military actions undertaken by the Azerbaijani army. Heydar Aliyev thanked the General for those promises through expressing his total support to the position of Pakistan in the solution of the Cashmere problem which in fact means encouragement of radical separatism. The leader of an Asian country which is situated thousands kilometers far from Caucasus, in fact calls on military solution of a conflict, for which the mediators, authorized by international organizations are tying to find a peaceful settlement for more than 10 years. Nobody gave an appropriate assessment to those actions. The result came immediately – Pakistan and Azerbaijan have already started to formulate there liabilities towards each other. The agreement signed in Karachi is considered to be historical in Baku and they note that it can become one of the principal military agreements signed ever by Pakistan with the CIS countries. According to official information, the document does not envisage direct supplies of arms, but only cooperation in the sphere of military industry, staff training and exchange of information. However, it’s hard to believe in. Especially if taking into account that Safar Abiyev has arrived in Karachi for participation in the “IDEAS-2002” exhibition of military technologies, during which the production of the Pakistani producers of weapons was mainly presented. The Azerbaijani Minister participated also in the demonstration of the presented military techniques, which included air maneuvers, service tests of “Al Khalid” military tanks, artillery, aircraft systems. It's worth noting that the matter concerns not only a Muslim country intending to demonstrate an Islamic solidarity, but also a state which has nuclear weapons. We’ll remind that Pakistan got a control over the technology of production of the nuclear bomb despite the fact that the world community was undertaking measures aimed at non-proliferation of the nuclear weapons. For violation of the adopted norms and the aggressive actions towards the neighboring India, international sanctions were imposed over Pakistan. Musharraf managed to avoid the embargo only thanks to a dishonest deal with the United States to which it “handed” its partners – talibans. Thanks to the nuclear arsenals the Pakistani dictator again threats India and tries to pry into Caucasus. Taking into account the character of the General Musharraf, one can assume that he could promise its Azerbaijani partners to provide them an access to technologies necessary for creation of nuclear weapons. The agreement signed in Karachi constitutes a concern in this sense. And not only for Armenia, but also for the big states not interested in distortion of the balance in the Caucasus, which, however, do not hurry to assess the impudence of the Pakistani leader. ![]() ![]() Who is who in the web of so many Sargsyans Controversy in quotations Split of opposition votes There will be no ideal solution ![]() ![]() ![]() 6 simple facts about Armenia–Karabakh–Azerbaijan triangle ![]() Main arguments of Armenia’s first President ![]() Bizarre election promises ![]() | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
