CoE Forum in Yerevan: vain hopes of the authorities and disappointment of the oppositionThe Council of Europe has no intention to interfere in internal affairs of Armenia. The Council of Europe’s Forum for the Future of Democracy has hardly answered the main question – what will democracy look like in future. October 22, 2010 PanARMENIAN.Net - The Forum participants have numerously stated that it’s not possible to develop a recipe for strengthening democracy in Europe, the event being just a good platform for exchange of opinions on this urgent issue. Unfortunately, neither Armenian political forces nor media representatives could understand that conduction of the Forum in Yerevan doesn’t mean that the Council of Europe believes Armenia to be an advanced democracy. The authorities were not lauded, contrary to their expectations, but were not slammed either, what caused bitter disappointment of the opposition, specifically the Armenian National Congress. As a result, both the authorities and opposition remained disappointed. The CoE Secretary General indicated clearly that the organization does not intend to interfere in internal affairs of Armenia. So, it’s our duty to introduce order in our country, without waiting for any help from outside.
