Armenians spying for Azerbaijan sentenced to long prison terms![]() April 6, 2012 - 20:26 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - On April 6, Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts ruled accusations of high treason against K. Mehrabyan, Matevosyan, and A. Chtrkyan as well-grounded, sentencing them to long prison terms. As press service of RA General Jurisdiction told PanARMENIAN.Net it was revealed during preliminary investigation that three Armenian citizens Mehrabyan, Matevosyan, and Chtrkyan received cooperation proposals from Azerbaijani agents for proper remuneration when in Turkey. Armenian citizens were tasked with collecting information on number of troops, military equipment and commanding staff of Armenia’s and NKR armed forces. According to preliminary investigation, Mehrabyan and Matevosyan were charged under paragraph 1 of Article 299 of RA Criminal Code (high treason is punished with imprisonment for a term of ten to fifteen years with confiscation of property), while Chtrkyan was changed under paragraph 1 of Article 38-299 of RA Criminal Code (Complicity in high treason). Mehrabyan is sentenced to 14 years in prison, Matevosyan and Chtrkyan sentenced to 10 years. ![]() ![]() Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution.
