ANC rep: ruling regime is my key opponent

PanARMENIAN.Net - Candidate of the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) Vladimir Karapetyan nominated in the 2nd constituency in Yerevan says he considers Samvel Farmanyan to be his rival at the upcoming parliamentary elections.

“My key opponent is the ruling regime, and my rival is part of this regime, I believe,” he said at a press conference in Yerevan.

“Unfortunately, my rival joined this party (the ruling Republican Party of Armenia- RPA) over this period. “Becoming a member of this party, he undertakes responsibility for the crimes the regime committed, and the pledges it has failed to fulfill,” Karapetyan added.

When asked to comment on rumors that Farmanyan enjoys support by RPA deputy, chairman of Armenia’s Football Federation Ruben Hayrapetyan, ANC member said mockingly that Hayrapetyan himself does need support now.

Opposition candidate also stated that Farmanyan actively engages administrative resources in the election campaign, so one cannot say that everybody has equal opportunities.

Karapetyan also spoke about Farmanyan’s membership in different parties, first Orinats Yerkir, then MIAK, and currently RPA.

Parliamentary elections are due in Armenia on May 6 featuring 8 political parties (Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), Prosperous Armenia, ARF Dashnaktsutyun (ARFD), Orinats Yerkir, Heritage, Democratic Party of Armenia (DPA), Communist Party of Armenia and United Armenian party, as well as one election bloc represented by opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC).
