ANC says its candidates assaulted in Yerevan

PanARMENIAN.Net - Candidates of the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) running for the parliament by majority system were attacked in the 7th constituency in Yerevan.

According to the ANC press service, ANC’s candidate by proportional system Babken Galoyan was injured, candidates Gayane Arustamyan and Zoya Tadevosyan were also assaulted.

ANC blames notorious tycoon, candidate of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Samvel Alexanyan who is nominated in the 7th constituency, for the attack.

The opposition bloc disseminated a statement demanding that the police reveal this incident and calls those responsible for it to account, emphasizing it will not yield in its fight “against the ruling regime”.

Parliamentary elections are due in Armenia on May 6 featuring 8 political parties (Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), Prosperous Armenia, ARF Dashnaktsutyun (ARFD), Orinats Yerkir, Heritage, Democratic Party of Armenia (DPA), Communist Party of Armenia and United Armenian party, as well as one election bloc represented by opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC).
