Earth Day 2012 campaign kicks off in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - Director of the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) Ruben Khachatryan, and VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian, presented Earth Day 2012 campaign main activities and the details of its central event – a huge tree-planting during a joint press conference.

This year’s big tree-planting event will take place in the buffer zone of Khosrov State Reserve near Urtsadzor community in Ararat province. Since 2010 FPWC is responsible for the protection of the territory. Trees will be planted in a forestless area in the buffer zone on Earth Day due April 22.

“Armenia is a small country, with limited natural resources, and the protection of nature and its management have been fundamental to the very existence of the nation. Therefore, one should admit that failure of decisions on sustainable long-term development today will affect the life quality of future generations,” Mr. Yirikian said.

Khachatryan and Yirikian further announced the results of the writing contest about birds, which was organized as part of this year’s Earth Day campaign. The contest was organized by FPWC for school children from all provinces of Armenia. Ruben Khachatryan and Ralph Yirikian honored the winners of three categories with awards, VivaCell-MTS press service reported.
