Baku “urges” UN to foil Artsakh elections

PanARMENIAN.Net - Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to UN, Agshin Mehdiyev sent a letter to Secretary General Ban Ki-moon over conduction of presidential elections in Artsakh Republic.

Mehdiyev filed complains against the Armenian side, whilst remaining silent about Azeri repeated attempts in frustrating Nagorno Karabakh peace talks. He did not say a word about Azerbaijan’s permanent ceasefire violations, disregard for international community’s calls, and disagreement to withdraw snipers from the front line.

“We call on the international community to demand Armenian government halt its destructive policy of annexation and ethnic cleansing,” reads the letter by representative of a country, whose authorities masterminded horrible anti-Armenian pogroms in Sumgait and Baku.

It is noteworthy, that the international observers always assessed all NKR elections as free, democratic and in line with international standards.

Four candidates will run for presidential elections scheduled for July 19.

Current President Bako Sahakyan, MP Vitaly Balasanyan, deputy director of State Agricultural Academy’s Stepanakert branch Arkady Soghomonyan and former head of Karabakh parliament’s general department, currently unemployed Valery Khachatryan nominated themselves for the vote.

All four will run as independent candidates.
