PROGRAMS FOR ARMENIAN NPP CLOSING AND CHANGE OF ITS ENERGY FACILITIES TO BE WORKED OUT TILL END OF 2004

PanARMENIAN.Net - During the current year the working group of the Committee for Armenia-EU cooperation will outline the security project in view of the closing of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant and the change of its energy facilities. As minister of trade and economic development of Armenia, co-chair of Armenia-EU Committee Karen Chshmaritian told journalists the terms of the realization of the measures will be fixed in the project. In the minister's words, after that a conference of donors, during which the amount of the investments by private and international structures will be determined, is to be held. When commenting on the sitting of the Armenia-EU Committee held recently in Brussels, K. Chshmaritian noted that Europe has confirmed readiness to assign 100 million euros for the closing of the Armenian NPP and creation of alternative energy sources. To note, according to the calculations made by the Armenian ministry of energy, $1 billion is needed for the realization of the programs.
