Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee celebration picks up steam

PanARMENIAN.Net - Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee celebration is picking up steam. On Sunday May 13 night, performers from all over the world got together at Windsor Castle for the Diamond Jubilee Show, CBS News reported.

The queen made her entrance in a gilded coach for what was basically a variety show. But it was a variety show on a majestic scale, hosted by Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren.

"Six months after the Coronation in 1953, a marathon program of state visits started with Bermuda and went on to include 11 other countries," noted Mirren to mark the Queen's jubilee.

But 60 years ago, the 27-year-old Queen Elizabeth embarked on her first official world tour, in Bermuda.

Now - after six decades on the throne - the world has come to her.

Some of Britain's own best talent, including reality TV superstar Susan Boyle, was joined on the grounds of Windsor Castle by acts from across the commonwealth, the United States, and around the globe.

In all, there were 800 performers there to mark the occasion.

The festival set the stage for a glittering summer of Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
