Paper: Gyumri mayor to be replaced

PanARMENIAN.Net - According to Haykakan Zhamanak daily, the authorities plan to dismiss Gyumri mayor, member of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Vardan Ghukasyan. The paper claims he will be replaced with Arman Sahakyan, another RPA member who ran for elections by majority system in constituency 34.

“Sahakyan lost the parliamentary vote to Prosperous Armenia’s Martun Grigoryan. According to the data published by Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission, RPA gained 24.5% of votes in Gyumri city, while Prosperous Armenia got 44.46%. RPA blames Gyumri mayor for its defeat here,” the paper reports.

Next elections of Gyumri mayor will be held on September 9 or 16.

The paper’s sources in the RPA claim that Ghukasyan, 76th on RPA’s electoral list will join the new parliament, and early mayor elections will be organized in Gyumri.
