Expert slams sustainable development concept

PanARMENIAN.Net - The concept of Sustainable development (SD), adopted in Rio de Janeiro City in 1992 may be detrimental for many nations, in case of implementation of all of its provisions, head of the Green Union of Armenia said.

Hakob Sanasaryan cited a number of SD provisions, called to ensure public welfare through 8-10% increase of word production without harming the ecosystem.

“Each person annually consumes about 50 tons of natural materials. We will have 350 billion tons of natural materials, if this number multiplied by 7 billion people,” he said.

According to Mr. Sanasaryan, the document comprises provisions such as population reduction and a number of similar clauses that can’t ensure sustainable development.
