Armenia should use Clinton’s visit to voice protest against Turkey’s actions

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian authorities must demand U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton exert pressure on Turkey in normalization of ties with Armenia, Armenian Cause Office director said.

Kiro Manoyan noted Armenian Genocide recognition by the U.S. executive branch to become the key tool of pressure.

“The U.S. must pressure Turkey into establishing relations with Armenia with no preconditions,” he said.

He further stressed the need to use Clinton’s visit as a good reason to declare the international community about withdrawing Armenia’s signature from Armenian-Turkish protocols.

Mr. Manoyan voiced skepticism over the authorities’ readiness to take the step, considering the upcoming developments in Armenia’s domestic policy.

Hillary Clinton will visit Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan on June 4-7 to discuss regional security, democracy, economic development and counterterrorism.

In Armenia on June 4, the Secretary will meet with President Sargsyan and other senior Armenian officials. She will also meet with Armenian civil society leaders.
