YEREVAN WELCOMES PUTIN STATEMENT CIS NEEDS HIGH-QUALITY STRENGTHENINGJuly 20, 2004 - 22:34 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Yerevan welcomes Russian President Vladimir Putin's statement that the CIS needs high-quality strengthening, head of the Armenian Foreign Ministry Vardan Oskanian stated in an interview with the Public TV Company of Armenia. He recognizes that "at present the need to reform and make the CIS a more efficient structure has ripened." In the Minister's opinion, "the Russian President has chosen the moment for the statement in question just in time." It should be reminded that Russian President Vladimir Putin stated at the July 19 sitting of the Security Council of Russia that the CIS has reached a point in its development, that should be followed by high-quality strengthening of the Commonwealth, otherwise collapse of the organization is inevitable. Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire.
