EU wants power over eurozone countries’ budgets![]() June 26, 2012 - 16:39 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - A top EU official wants powers to force eurozone countries to change their national budgets as part of a grand vision to save the currency, Belfast Telegraph said. Other ideas in the plan, published by European Council president Herman Van Rompuy, include issuing medium-term debt backed by all countries and a banking union with a single authority that would insure banking deposits and have the power to recapitalise banks directly. The document, to be debated at a summit of EU leaders on Thursday and Friday, was drawn up by Mr Van Rompuy, European Commission president Jose Manuel Barroso, eurogroup head Jean-Claude Juncker and European Central Bank president Mario Draghi. Yerevan has dismissed Turkey’s demand to shut down the Armenian nuclear power plant as “inappropriate”. Armenia will loan 2.9 billion drams to Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh), according to a draft government decision. The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan has “strongly condemned” Armenia’s decision. Kerobyan has said that for the first time in the history of Armenia, the volume of foreign direct investments amounted to about $1 billion. Partner news |
