ARMENIANS OF ABKHAZIA NEED ARMENIA ATTENTION

PanARMENIAN.Net - The unstable domestic situation in Abkhazia promotes growth of criminal activities. As reported by sources from inside Abkhazia, availing themselves of the weakening of the central authorities, criminal elements attack houses of prosperous residents. Armenian community representatives also suffer from the complication of the criminal situation. According to some unofficial data, Armenians now form the majority of the Republic population (some 35 thousand, while Abkhazians make some 30 thousand). Armenians are a more attractive target for robbery, as they are not so well protected by sibling connection. Armenians of Abkhazia speak of insufficient attention to their problems by Armenia - the authorities and the society. The situation in Abkhazia is close to a civil confrontation, which can result in a strong damage of the interests of the Armenian community as well. Meanwhile, the community at the moment is not ready to a critical development of events.
