Oscar-winning helmer’s "Mea Maxima Culpa" doc trailer released (video) August 2, 2012 - 20:51 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - "Mea Maxima Culpa: Silence in the House of God" takes the Catholic Church head-on, TheWrap said. Directed by Academy Award-winning Alex Gibney, the documentary investigates Catholic priest Lawrence C. Murphy's multifarious acts of sexual predation on little boys at St. John's School for the Deaf in the late '70s and early '80s -- and the cover-up that kept this issue under the radar for years, which the trailer describes as "something far worse than a conspiracy." Featured are interviews with some of the victims, as well as with New York Times investigative journalist Laurie Goldstein, who revealed the crimes in 2010. "Mea Maxima Culpa" marks the latest outing from provocative documentarian Gibney, who wrote and directed "Taxi to the Dark Side" and "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room." The former, which nabbed Best Documentary Oscar in 2007, investigates U.S. torture practices abroad and focuses on an innocent taxi driver who was tortured in Afghanistan in 2002, while the latter explores the fall of Enron and the company's corruption.
