Adams, nicknamed Babyface, won the fight 16-7 against three-time world champion Ren. The British boxer came out swinging in the first round, which she won 4-2, before knocking Ren down in the second as she took a 9-4 lead, which she stretched to 14-5 by the end of the third as Ren struggled to cope. Marlen Esparza of the United States and Indonesia's Mary Kom won bronze after losing their semifinals Wednesday. Esparza, 23, was defeated 10-8 in the semifinal by Ren, while Kom was thrashed 11-6 in her semifinal by second-seeded Adams. Women's boxing is making its debut in the Olympics this year. Bouts consist of four two-minute rounds, as opposed to the three three-minute rounds for the men. Both semifinals losers are awarded bronze medals, with the semifinal winners battling it out for gold and silver.
