As Inga Zarafyan told a press conference, nephelene syenite mine operation will undermine Lake Sevan’s ecosystem, with Marmarik and Aghstev rivers running nearby. “Thus, the mine operation is permissible at a distance of only 4000 m. from the lake basin. It will pose serious threat to Armenia’s freshwater reserves, prompting environmental disaster,” Ms. Zarafyan said, adding that public discussions are being organized on the issue. The nephelene syenit mine is located between villages of Meghradzor and Artavazd, in the northern and southern slopes of Tezh mountain. ![]() ![]() As a result of floods in Armenia’s northern Lori and Tavush provinces, 17 bridges, including five large ones, have collapsed.
