UK'S OFFER TO PAY OFF 10% OF ARMENIA'S STATE DEBT IS RECOMPENSE FOR SUSTAINABLE ECONOMY DEVELOPMENT

PanARMENIAN.Net - The UK's offer to pay off 10% of Armenia's external debt testifies of the sustainable development of the republic's economy, UK Ambassador Thorda Abbott-Watt stated in her interview with Regnum IA. In her words, additional funds will help the republic to increase financing of public health, education and social welfare as well as to improve the living conditions of the population. "The UK government offered to pay off 10% of Armenia's debt till 2015. The UK Ministry for International Development will deposit the sum in the trust fund of the World Bank. The Association for International Development (founded to help poorest countries) will reduce the payments Armenia is due to make during the next ten years", the British diplomat noted. Armenia of one of the 5 states to benefit from this assistance. To note, taking into account that Armenia is to pay $8 million, $11 million and $12 million in 2005, 2006 and 2007 respectively, the UK's contribution will make $800 thousand in 2005, $1.1 in 2006 and $1.2 in 2007 (totally $20 million till year 2015).
