Russian Foreign Minister to discuss Syria in Pakistan

PanARMENIAN.Net - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will be discussing among other issues the solution of the ongoing Syrian conflict during his talks with the Pakistani leadership on Thursday, Oct 4, acording to RIA Novosti.

Lavrov arrived in Islamabad upon an invitation from his Pakistani counterpart Hina Rabbani Khar and he is expected to discuss with her issues of bilateral cooperation as well as of the developing situation in Afghanistan.

The Syrian conflict has claimed up to 20,000 lives according to estimates by various Syrian opposition groups. The UN estimates the death toll at over 18,000 people. The Syrian authorities say that 8,000 have been killed.

The West is pushing for President Bashar al-Assad’s ouster while Russia and China are trying to prevent outside interference in Syria, saying that the Assad regime and the opposition are both to blame for the bloodshed.
