PanARMENIAN.Net - The Istanbul Chief Prosecutor's Office has demanded permission from the Prime Ministry to launch an investigation against intelligence officers accused of illegally wiretapping three prominent journalists and nine others, Hürriyet Daily News reported.

According to the claim, intelligence officers eavesdropped on Ahmet Altan, Mehmet Altan, Yasemin Çongar and nine other people while concealing themselves with code names.

The prosecutor's office has accused the officers of forging official documents, intrusion into communication privacy and misuse of office. The prosecutor also said the fact damaged the National Intelligence Organization’s (MİT) public image.

An investigation will be launched pending the Prime Ministry's response.
