EU SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE: KARABAKH CONFLICT HAMPERS REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Nagorno Karabakh conflict hampers regional development, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Heikki Talvitie stated at a joint press conference with Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian today. In his words, the EU has organized diverse events, seminars, however cooperation in the region is not established yet. Thereupon H. Talvitie noted that the EU highlights the soonest solution of the Karabakh conflict. He also noted it was necessary to continue talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan at the level of FMs. In his words, the Armenian and Azeri FMs play an important part in the negotiations until it is time for presidential talks. «The OSCE Co-Chairs will not be able to act if there are no talks between the parties to conflict. The parties should find a solution themselves and only provided that it is the case the Co-Chairs will be able to make their contribution to the settlement and propose conflict settlement formulas,» Talvitie states. Answering a question on the opportunity of application of the Yugoslavia model of conflict solution, Talvitie noted that application of the experience of solving other conflicts to the Karabakh one is not always useful.
