WBC authorizes Saul Alvarez to make voluntary defense

PanARMENIAN.Net - On November 13, in Mexico City the WBC announced that WBC super welterweight champion Saul “Canelo Alvarez is free to make a voluntary defense of his title after Saturday’s WBC eliminator between Erislandy Lara and Vanes Martirosyan ended in a technical draw when Martirosyan suffered a cut in a head clash.

The ruling opens the door to a possible mega-fight for Canelo on May 4, 2013 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Canelo has mentioned an interest in fighting Floyd Mayweather, Miguel Cotto and Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez, fightnews.com reported.
