Consumers can now purchase the NOOK HD 7-inch tablet and the NOOK HD+ 9-inch device from a range of retailers and online. Barnes & Noble said that pre-orders for the two tablets "exceeded our expectations" ahead of the release. The NOOK HD features a 7-inch LED-backlit multi-touch screen, with a resolution of 1440x900, boasting 243 pixels per inch (PPI). It weighs 315 grams, is 5 inches (127mm) wide and features a design similar to that of Barnes & Noble's NOOK e-readers. Powered by a dual-core 1.3GHz processor and running a forked version of Google Android, NOOK HD is available in 'Snow' and 'Smoke' colours. The product costs £159 for the 8GB model or £189 for a 16GB version - both feature expandable microSD memory for additional storage. Competing with Apple's main iPad, the NOOK HD+ is a full HD 9-inch screen slate supporting movies, magazines and other content in 1080p. It weighs 515g - claimed to be the lightest in its class - and has a 1.5GHz dual-core processor under the hood.
