Yerevan declaration adopted at EPP Eastern Partnership Summit

PanARMENIAN.Net - Yerevan hosted the 2nd European People's Party (EPP) Eastern Partnership Leaders' Summit, with a declaration adopted, presidents of participant countries said after the meeting.

As Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan noted, Yerevan declaration featured the further cooperation steps of the Eastern Partnership. In his speech, President Sargsyan stressed the role of the EPP in inter-parliamentary relations.

EPP president Wilfried Martens, in turn, underscored the importance of adoption of democratic values through dialogue and cooperation, highlighting the provision on conflict settlement in the Yerevan declaration.

“As members of one and the same political family, we have common concerns,” he told a press conference.

For his part, European Commission President José Manuel Barroso stressed the necessity of strengthening public relations in deepening of ties between countries.

“We must follow the path of European integration and adopt democratic values,” Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, who was also present at the summit, said.
