“Lawless” star Tom Hardy to headline “Splinter Cell” hit vid game adaptation![]() December 6, 2012 - 17:50 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - New Regency has signed on to produce Ubisoft’s big-screen adaptation of "Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell,” a best-selling video game, TheWrap said. As part of the deal, Ubisoft, the French video game maker, and New Regency will work closely to both develop and co-produce the film. Tom Hardy is starring in the action film, which is based on a script by Eric Warren Singer. Hardy will play Sam Fisher, a highly trained special operative in a fictional black-ops operation called Echelon. In the game, Fisher and the agents of Echelon use their combat skills, weapons and cutting-edge gadgets to beat international terrorist threats and rogue forces. The game has sold more than 23 million copies since it launched in 2002. Six games have been released to date, with the next episode, "Splinter Cell: Blacklist," to be released next spring. This is the second partnership between the two companies.
